About CUUL
CUUL Background
Consortium of Uganda University Libraries was established in December 2001 and consists of most public and private academic libraries in licensed and accredited institutions of higher education in Uganda. Some research institutions are also affiliate members of the Consortium. The purpose of CUUL is to cooperate in continually improving the availability and delivery of library and information services to the higher education community, in Uganda and peripheral research communities.
The purpose of the consortium is to coordinate and disseminate resource information and promote collaboration resource sharing among institutions and University Libraries in Uganda in order to strengthen the Library services provided to the students, stuff and other patronage of the institutions.
CUUL Vision.
An institution that will be an international shining example as an information organizer and disseminator.
CUUL Mission.
To ensure the provision of effective library and information services by Uganda University Libraries through cooperation and resource sharing.
CUUL Aims and Objectives.
1.To create a forum inform of conferences, seminars, workshops, courses and so on for University Libraries where issues like information networking, resource sharing, standardization and modern trends will be liberated.
2.To initiate and promote the consortium.
3.To ensure human resource development in Library and Information Science skills at all levels.
4.To promote information capturing.
5. To promote co-operative information processing, storage preservation, dissemination and Information Communication Technology (ICT) development and application.
6.To lobby the Uganda Government and individual institutions to recognize the status of University Library and Information Professionals.
7.To establish a register of code of conduct and professional ethics for University Library and Information professionals.
8. To raise funds for developing and sustaining the activities of the consortium through strategies such as income generating activities.
9.To engage in activities that are geared towards promoting and sustaining the consortium.
10.To develop information marketing strategies.
11.To develop service evaluation and performance indicators.
